About me

Hello! I’m Gabriel, a biologist by training who has spent lots of time working as a scientific educator. Throughout the years, I've also had the opportunity to work in the field for the conservation of sloths in Costa Rica and of various habitats in Quebec!

Thanks to the many nature documentaries out there, I have always been fascinated by wildlife, but starting birdwatching in 2019 was really my first gateway towards exploring the outdoors. I loved being able to see or, even better, hear a bird and naming it. And there were SO MANY of them! Almost 300 bird species breeding in Quebec and almost 200 in Montreal only, all hidden from me until 2019! Crazy. My dad had the brilliant idea of lending me his camera that wasn’t being used, and told me I should shoot some birds while I’m at it. After a few years, and a ton of learning, my focus during outings changed from identifying as many birds as possible to capturing the best image I could of a few or a single species. I became HOOKED. Since then, I have been going out whenever possible, using my tracking skills and knowledge of species in order to find them, waking up many hours before sunrise, or freezing my hands off just for the chance to photograph something special. My connection to the natural world became real and I’ll never want to give that up.

With GniusWild, I hope to share my knowledge with each image I take and inspire in others the need to protect our natural habitats and their inhabitants. I believe we must remember where we come from, that we too are part of our surrounding ecosystems. Proper cohabitation with wildlife is essential to building a safe future for us all. So, let me show you just how INSANELY cool the natural world can be, and hopefully you too will bond with the beasts in your backyard! many thanks for reading this far down you’re the best hehe
